SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Springfield Technical Community College Theatre Workshop will perform "At the Wedding," a laugh-out-loud comedy by acclaimed playwright Bryna Turner.
This bittersweet and engaging play will be performed on May 2 at 11 a.m., May 3 at 7 p.m., and May 4 at 7 p.m. at the auditorium in Scibelli Hall (Building 2) at 博彩网站. Admission is free, but donations are gratefully accepted.
"At the Wedding" is a captivating exploration of love, family dynamics and identity. Set against the backdrop of a wedding ceremony, the play delves into the lives of its characters as they navigate through a maze of emotions, secrets and revelations. With wit, humor and genuine heart, Turner's script offers a profound reflection on the complexities of human relationships.
Directed by Phil O’Donoghue, a professor of theater and English at 博彩网站, the 博彩网站 Theatre Workshop has been diligently preparing to bring this compelling story to life on stage. Featuring a talented cast and crew composed of students, the production promises to captivate audiences and ignite meaningful conversations.
"We are thrilled to present 'At the Wedding' to our community," O’Donoghue said. "Bryna Turner’s play takes the goldmine for all dramas – a wedding – and puts a whole new face on it. ‘At the Wedding’ will have you laughing out loud, while at the same time, pondering the very real issues it brings up.”

Students who contributed to the production include those from the 博彩网站 Architecture and Building Technology Program.
“This is a wonderful opportunity for us to expose students to the technical aspect of theater,” O’Donoghue said. “博彩网站 has a technical mission, but we also have thriving liberal arts programs including theater and acting classes.”
Dr. Christopher Thuot, Vice President of Academic Affairs, said the 博彩网站 Theatre Workshop welcomes students from all academic disciplines.
“Each semester, we look forward to seeing the 博彩网站 Theatre Workshop’s production,” Thuot said. “We recognize the profound significance of theater productions in enriching the educational experience of our students. Through our theater productions, we aim to inspire our students to explore diverse perspectives, engage with complex narratives, and ultimately, become thoughtful contributors to society.”
Students in the 博彩网站 Theatre Workshop say they can’t wait to show off their talent for audiences. It's the first time 博彩网站 Student Emani Rosado of Springfield has been in a play. Brimming with confidence, she is looking forward to stepping into the spotlight and showing off her acting chops as the waiter.
“I am getting the chance to show the star that I am and am so grateful for to be a part of this production,” Rosado said. “I like being the person that all the eyes are on. I like the stardom that it comes with. I like being the ‘baddest’ up there.”
Another student in the play, AJ Nava, said he was enjoying rehearsals. He plays a character who behaves badly and ratchets up the drama.
“Phil O’Donoghue is doing an amazing job in keeping us all on track,” Nava said. “I’m having a great time getting to know the cast.”
